Well another summer is drawing to a close. Playoff baseball has returned to Greeneville and many of the Astros affiliates are preparing for their playoffs to start. Let's look at the former G-Stros in affiliated ball and see who stood out in August.
Tri City ValleyCats:
Pitcher of the Month
Gonzalo Sanudo appeared in seven games in August and got six saves. He struck out 17 batters in 11 1/3 innings pitched. He allowed just three hits and one walk.
Honorable Mention goes to Michael Feliz is having a break out season in Tri-City. In August,
he pitched in five games (four starts) and had an ERA of 1.75. He
struck out 26 batters in 25 2/3 innings pitched.
Tyler Brunnemann also gets a nod. He appeared in seven games after his call up from Greeneville. In those appearances, he struck out 10 batters in 8 1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run.
Hitter of the Month
Tyler White hit .265 in August and had more walks (9) than strike outs (7).
Quad Cities River Bandits
Pitcher of the Month
Three relievers will share the award for this month.
Andrew Walter appeared in five games (10 1/3 IP) and had a perfect 0.00 ERA. He fanned 10 batters.
Mitchell Lambson appeared in eight games (18 1/3 IP) and only allowed one run for a 0.49 ERA with 25 strike outs. He allowed just nine hits and four walks for the month.
Jamaine Cotton appeared in eight games (21 IP) and had an impressive 0.86 ERA with two saves. He only struck out 12 but he only allowed 13 hits.
Hitter of the Month
Carlos Correa hit .336 for August with a .430 on base percentage and 13 extra base hits.
Honorable Mention goes to Rio Ruiz who hit .298 for the month and had 17 extra base hits.
Lancaster JetHawks
Pitcher of the Month
Michael Dimock appeared in eight games (14 2/3 IP) and only allowed two earned runs (1.23 ERA). He struck out 14 batters while only allowing three walks.
Hitter of the Month
Delino DeShields hit .365 in 23 games this month with an impressive on base percentage of .455. He also stole 11 bases in 13 attempts.
Corpus Christi Hooks
Pitcher of the Month
Carlos Quevedo had a great month out of the CC bullpen. He didn't allow a run in 8 appearances (16 IP). He allowed just five walks and five hits while striking out 18 batters.
Honorable Mention goes to Michael Foltynewicz who maintained a respectable 3.63 ERA in August. It appears he is beginning to tire some as his strike out numbers reduce (just 13 in 22 1/3 IP) but he is still pitching well.
Luis Cruz has shown he belongs in AA. In his four appearances since
arriving in CC, he has a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings pitched. He has struck
out 21 batters during that time.
Hitter of the Month
Luis Alvarez gets the nod this month not because of his average in Corpus Christ (.235 for August in six games) but because in a span of about a month and a half, he moved up from SS-A ball to A to Hi-A to AA. That is a rare four level season and deserves notice.
Oklahoma City RedHawks
Pitcher of the Month
Pat Urckfitz appeared in nine games for the RedHawks bullpen in August. He allowed a 2.08 ERA in 8 2/3 innings pitched.
Hitter of the Month
Rene Garcia continues to represent himself well with the bat. He hit .258 in 17 games after his promotion from CC. He also had thrown out four out of nine base runners so far.
Non Astros Affiliates
Pitcher of the Month
Arcenio Leon pitched in 11 games for Huntsville (AA-Brewers) in August. He allowed just two runs in 13 2/3 innings out of the bullpen for a 1.32 ERA.
Hitter of the Month
Jordan Parraz hit .319 for New Britan (AA- Twins).

It wasn't a stellar month for former G-Stros in the big league. So we are going to leave these honors vacant for the month.

Appy Astros Alumni of the Month: July 2012
A bunch of G-Stros players have been on the month this month. We have several players earning Alumni of the month designation for teams they are either no longer on or just arrived on. Let's take a look at former Greeneville Astros who had a strong July.
Tri Cities ValleyCats
Hitter:
Jessie Wierzbicki hit .299 in 27 games in July. I was surprised by the speed numbers. He hit two triples and was successful in nine out of 10 stolen base attempts.
Pitcher:
Jarmaine Cotton appeared in seven games out of the Tri Cities bullpen. He was almost perfect for the month, allowing just one earned run in 10 1/3 innings pitched. He fanned 10 batters while only allowing six hits and four walks.
Honorable Mentions: Vincent Velasquez, Jeremiah Meiners
Lexington Legends
Hitter:
Delino DeShields Jr was dominate in July. He hit .380 for the month in 27 games. He showed impressive pop, hitting seven doubles, a triple and four home runs. On the base paths, he added 20 stolen bases to his team record total, bringing him to 77 on the season. You have to wonder if he will be eligible for alumni of the month on another team in August.
Honorable Mention: Ruben Sosa
Pitcher:
Mitchell Lambson almost let this recognition slip away last night. Prior to last night, he had been dominate since his promotion from Greeneville in late June. Lambson gave up four of the eight earned runs for the month last night. His ERA jumped to 3.48 for the month after that outing. Yet he still fanned 22 batters in just 20 2/3 innings pitched and opponents hit just .215 off of him.
Lancaster JetHawks
Hitters:
It wasn't a great month for former Greeneville players at the plate in Lancaster. So, I am going with Ben Orloff, who was promoted in the middle of July to AA. Prior to his promotion, he hit .344 with only three strike outs in 40 plate appearances.
Pitchers:
Carlos Quevedo is doing well since his promotion to Lancaster in early July. In seven outings, he has given up just two earned runs in 15 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out nineteen while walking just four batters. Last night he gave up two walks. It was his first multi walk outing since early May.
Honorable Mention: Patrick Urckfitz, David Martinez
Corpus Christi Hooks
Hitters:
Even though he was promoted, Chris Wallace's numbers for July in Corpus Christi deserve recognition. In 11 games before his promotion, he hit .467 (14 for 34). Since his promotion, he has hit a very respectable .333 in OKC.
Pitchers:
The pitcher of the month also goes to a promoted player. Jose Cisnero made four starts in CC before moving to OKC. In those starts, he had a 2.75 ERA and struck out 28 batters in 26 2/3 innings pitched. He pitched a complete nine inning game on 7/22.
Oklahoma City RedHawks
Hitters:
Brandon Barnes continues to be a solid producer at the plate. He hit .333 for July in 25 games. I continue to be impressed with his improved plate discipline. He took 13 walks in July which helped his OBP rise to .417 for the month.
Pitcher: there was no former G-Stro pitcher on the roster for much of July. Fernando Abad was optioned there from Houston at the end of the month and made one forgettable appearance.
MLB
Hitter:
Jose Altuve hit .282 for the month of July. His average is down a bit but OBP up due to taking 10 walks in the month. He also added seven stolen bases in eight attempts for the month.
Pitcher:
Troy Patton continues to be a significant part of the Baltimore bullpen. Patton appeared in 13 games for the Os in July amassing 10 innings pitched. During that stretch, he allowed just two earned runs, both off home runs. Both home runs came in the first outing of the month. Since then he has not allowed a run to score. It does look like he played with fire a bit with opponents hitting .302 against him for the month and a surprising 1.60 WHIP.
MILB outside of organization
Hitter:
Ralph Henriquez is hitting .314 in 10 games for AA Jackson (Mariners). It is nice to see Henriquez having some success. He will always be a fan favorite in Greeneville.
Pitcher:
Jimmy Barthmaier gets the nod this month. He is recovering from injury and started his year in High A, where he put up a 1.84 ERA in 14 outings before earning a promotion to AA late this month. He is in the Nationals organization.
Distribution
Lets look at where those in the organization are at the end of July:

Greeneville Report - The Pitchers - June 2012
We have seen what the hitters looked like, let's take a look at the pitchers. We will look at the top starters and relievers.
Starters:
I really like the game score stat. So I will use that as the primary tool to evaluate the starters. However one of the limitations is that some of the starters are still being stretched out so they won't go as long in games as others and that limits their scoring potential in this formula.
Adrian Houser - Three Starts - Average Game Score (47). Houser had both the high and the low game score for the G-Stros in June. He bounced back from an 11 to score a 74 in his final start of the month. The 74 game score was the highest on the team thus far this season.
Richard Ramirez - Three Starts - Average Game Score (59). Very consistent month with game scores of 61, 57, and 59 in his three starts. Ramirez is second in the league in strikeouts (22 in 17 IP), and ninth in WHIP (1.06).
Francis Ramirez -Two Starts - Average Game Score (49.5). Even though June wasn't spectacular, F-Ram has started July with a game score with a 70 in his start on Sunday.
Keep an eye on Daniel Minor who earned a game score of 60 in a three inning start. It appears they are stretching him out. He went four innings in his next start with a not as impressive game score of 44.
Relievers:
We get a bit of a larger sample size with relievers in terms of appearances but due to the low inning count, one bad outing can skew the results. Here are the top thee relievers based on numbers for June.
Mitch Lambson - earned his promotion to Lexington by striking out 12 batters and allowing no base runners in the 9 2/3 innings he pitched in Greeneville.
Jordan Jankowski - is earning the title of team vulture. He already has three wins pitching in relief. In five games, he has 11 strikeouts in 7 1/3 IP.
Michael Hauschild - has become the closer for Greeneville. He has finished four games and earned saves in both save opportunities he had in June. He struck out seven in six innings pitched.
